Where do you go to chill?

The A/C at my house decided to break down Saturday night. Sunday afternoon as the temp pushed 90 degrees, I had to get out of the house. I grabbed the kiddo and we headed to SouthPark mall.

Now I am not a shopper. I don't buy things for fun or therapy. Months -- I'm talking as many as six or seven -- go by between trips to the mall. I head there when I need something specific, get it and leave. I don't linger. I don't windowshop.

Yesterday was a different story. I pushed my daughter's stroller down every wing. I browsed. I got my kid some shoes to replace a pair that disappeared at daycare (We think she threw them in the trash. She's very into throwing things in the trash.)

Then when I ran out of things things to look at and with a shopping list that was incredibly short due to impending A/C bills -- I headed for Cheesecake Factory for a little midday snack. And here's the ironic part, when the waitress asked if we'd like to sit outside, I said, "yes."

Where do you like to chill when you need a break from the heat? Or if your A/C broke down, where would you go?

I like to go to Central Park if I'm in the City. The Adirondacks, Poconos, or Vermont for a long weekend.

Oh boy we're back to New York again. I'm soooo excited.

I go to my own backyard, where I'm surrounded by woods, birds singing, a great patio and a huge hot tub. Nothing better!

Maybe they just moved here and don't have a favorite local place yet. Give us all a break and go drown your angry southern a$$ in your hot tub.

If they just moved here then they used to go to Central Park, or the used to go to the Adirondacks, or they used to go to Poconos, or they used to go to Vermont for a long weekend. Now they are looking for a new place to chill. I have to think that this blog about being new around town means new around the Charlotte area so she would be looking for places people like to go chill around town....this town. See somebody make a statement that indicates they don't like talking about New York and your suggestion is to go drown in the hot tub. You sound a bit angrier than the previous post. Maybe you need to find a place to go chill.

The angry southerner is just jealous because they've never had the opportunity to leave Gaston County.

Anonymous said...

That is just a stupid statement. How could you possibly know that they never left Gaston county and they didn't seem that angry. Maybe a little annoyed.

You don't and obviously never will get it. Maybe they are NEW to the area. If they don't have a favorite local place yet all they have to comment on is what they know. If that happens to be where they just came from then so be it. Who cares, besides you ?

Bend over, reach back and pull the panties out of your butt.

I really miss cooling off with Italian ice or gelato like I used to get when we lived on Long Island.

Two great gelato joints:

Mia Gelato in Birkdale

Dolce Ristorante in Dilworth

Your favorites are here, you just have to search them out a bit more than back home.

Please New Yorkers, go back to NY! Yo're not wanted here.

Anonymous said...

Please excuse my typo.. you're not welcome here...

Oh but our tax dollars are welcome here. You may not like us but the Chamber of Commerce loves us.

This is THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. That means North Carolina and New York are UNITED. We are all one in the same.

The war is over. People like you 12:31 and all you other haters should get flogged for being anti American.

No crap !

They should be tied to one of the statues at the square of Trade and Tryon and stoned.

These are the same people who spout that Liberals are anti American. Or if you are against the war you are anti American.

Nothing more than a bunch of prejudice hillbillies. What a joke.

I was born at Presby and have lived within an hour of Charlotte my entire life. I travel to Cincinnati, Houston, Indianappolis, etc. I totally disagree that New Yorkers or anyone from a Northern state are not welcome here. I have friends that currently live in the North and that have moved down here and they are not bad people. I understand how people born and raised in the South get upset with people born and raised in the North complaining about so many things Southern. However, most of the people I know from the North are good people. They might have different accents than we do but that does not make them bad. I know of one Yankee radio personallity that thinks much less of Northerners than Southerners. I think a few people from the North have in some way offended a few people from the South and vice versa and the next thing you know we are stereotyping each other and creating harsh feelings before we even get to know each other. I also think places like blogs where people make anonymous comments that might be or appear to be more brash than they would normally speak or even meant.

Your tax dollars don't pay for squat. That's why several counties in NC are considering a tax on the sale of residential property.

For the record, we are not one in the same. Even if you live here for 50 years you will never be fully accepted, you will always be an outsider. Get used to the idea.

You and I both know that the things posted about yankees on this blog are the same things that we southerners say when we are among one another. We may not complain about yankees in mixed company but we definitely complain about them to our family and friends.

As a Native American Cherokee, I think the comments from the southern rednecks are quite hypocritical.

Anonymous said...

Rednecks, you lost. You got beat. To the victors go the spoils.

Anonymous said...

I must again disagree. I don't consider someone bad because they are a Yankee. When I think of that term I picture my wife's best friend's husband. He is a little brash, has that New York accent and cusses like a sailor. He is also one of the hardest working, most generous people I know. He is a lot like my Grandfather who was born in Monroe and live here his entire life....except for the accent. I think there are some Yankees that are total jerks and I think there are some Southerners that are as well. I judge you based on your actions. Not your accent or origin or the color of your skin or age, etc.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 2:53, what exactly did YOU win or I lose? I didn't fight you for anything and I'd bet you didn't fight me for anything. YOU ARE ONE OF THE JERKS!! Try not to bring an entire region down with your stupid comments.

Anonymous said...

First of all we wont have to "get use to the idea" since pretty soon there will be more of us down here than there are of you.

Secondly, you rednecks talk amongst yourselves because you would never have the spine to say it to our faces. Unlike us, we tell it to you straight, right to your face. That's why "YA'LL" can't stand us.

Come on now, there are too many of you yankees around but you don't honestly think that you out number us do you?

Talking behind peoples backs: Southern Hospitality

You're damn right, bless your heart. :)

Anonymous said...

Anonymous @ 3:08 - You are mistaken. A true redneck would cuss you out in a heartbeat and have no qualms about it. A 'polite' southerner would rather talk about you behind your back. I prefer to do the latter because it hurts yankees much more to find out that the people that they thought were their friends never really liked them.

Anonymous said...

Where do I go to chill? Why this blog of course. Can you feel the love?

Anonymous said...

Y'all move to the South because you can't stand the cold and then you have the nerve to complain about the heat? It's no wonder that yankees and so respected admired down here. LOL.

Amy, I propose a new "blog" that lets the Civil War re-enacters go at it all day. KEEP TO THE TOPIC PEOPLE!

Why does every single post (even ones where Amy doesn't talk about NY) have to get comments like these? Give it up.

Anonymous said...

Look Southerners if you dont like it here MOVE farther South but I'll tell you many of you North Carolinians arent welcome there either; You raised so much hell during the civil war and would stop fighting ; I wish you would have kept fighting until you were all dead .

Anonymous said...

I go to JIM and Nicks and get a fresh made ad squeezed lemonade with mounds of crushed ICE.

Anonymous said...

Look if you would have won the civil war this would have been the United Southern half of the British empire but things didnt work out that way better luck next time.

Anonymous said...

Amy Im sorry your board has become propaganda for the new civil war and succeeding the States again; Looks like my Great Grandfather Hiram Grant shouldnt have let People just gop back to their farms .

I suppose many of you have a prejudice against the new African- American Police chief also; Go into your Fire and Brimstone church and ask you serpent tongue Minister what color was JESUS in the Middle east. And how many of you will get to Heaven by hating a man of color for no reason. Jesus didnt have Blue eyes and blonde hair . God I pray for your souls.

A) That decision belonged to Lincoln, not Grant.

B) Thanks a lot for "letting" soldiers who didn't own slaves and probably didn't want to go to war anyway go back to the homes that you burned to the ground. Thanks too for the military occupation and carpetbaggers.

C) If I were you I wouldn't claim Grant as an ancestor. His administration was plagued by corruption and scandal.

Lets face it Amy the Southerners hate us the Yankees; Look we briought the Africans over on ships made them pick cotton and do housework , we even let them live in our houses like Thomas Jefferson did ; Then when a black Person moves in our neighborhood we get scared. Look we owe the African American reperations if we have to set up a CASINO , much like the Indians , to pay for it. I am prposing a Casino ,off of Lake Wylie ,on the North Carolina side to pay for poverty in Charlotte.

Amy People tripped the fuses on your condensor side and thats all it was; They have People who go arund houses during the day while your at work and pull fuses, its the oldest trick in the book Amy; Then when the service man comes over who looks like Mr. Haney from Green Acres, he takes 6 hours to put the fuses back in.

Yikes hopefully readers can sift through all the not-on-point comments. I actually like to go to the library to cool off. They have free WiFi! A huge sweet iced tea from McAlister's is helpful as well. Someone should set up misting tents downtown, like they have at big sporting events sometimes. They're like the sprayers in the produce section at the grocery store..

I can't bear to check. How long was it between Amy hitting post and someone bringing up noo york? Wait let me guess, then someone complained about yankees maybe a yankee go home type of thing and someone responded with some lame ass comment about a war that happened over 100 years ago and probably some sort of redneck comment.

Did I miss anything.

Yankees shut up or go home. Preferably both.

I like to go get a slush from Sonic to chill out! :)

Almost every blog results in a North vs. South thing. Why?

And by the way, I like to go to Showmars for a cold sweet tea or Sonic for a slushie.

If the A/C goes off, I go to the amll or the movies to cool off.
