Vacation time?

Thinking of getting out of town? But is the economy holding you back?

Observer reporter Jefferson George is looking for families who have changed their vacation plans because of the economy. That means maybe you're not venturing as far or you're now going someplace cheaper. If that's you, he'd love to hear your story. Contact him at 704-358-5071 or jgeorge@charlotteobserver.com. Be sure to leave your name and daytime phone number.

Thanks, everyone.

Yes, Heres a cheap vacation Chimney rock for a day and maggie valley for cheap camping and lovely campgrounds; Washington D.C. for a cheap hotel in an extended stay or become a Motel club member that helps; Washington can be cheap if you watch yourself , A) fight for a cheap hotel by calling the hotel direct and no middleman. All the sights are scott free for the most part and you can bring sandwiches for gods sake.

Try hiking when the weather gets warmer this gives you exercise and time away; Boone and Mount Mitchell are great to view. The Marine Museum is really great in D.C. and Colonial Williamsburg is free and the hotels are cheap if you shop. Another is Mary Duke rose garden at Duke University; I was amazed at all of the wonderful gardens at Duke; Parking can be a little scarce so look around and walk if you have to , its well worth it.
