Your favorite bars

Hey, readers, do you play pub trivia? I'm looking for your favorite bars for trivia nights. You know where you answer Trivial Pursuit-style questions for pitchers of Coors Light or pints of Guinness. Please let me know.

If you post here and send a copy of it to my e-mail I'll put your name in a raffle for a prize drawing. Thanks!

O'Sheas Irish Pub on the corner of Tom Short and Ardrey Kell on Tuesday nights. It's a blast

angry ale's near park road shopping center and ed's tavern on park rd in dilworth.

Wild Wing on Tuesdays with Chris Rozack can be fun..... but if the other guy is filling in don't go.

Angry's, Moosehead, Selwyn Pub (sometimes), Gin Mill. All other bars in Charlotte of full of gel-head Yankees or rednecks.

I second O'Sheas! Great BBQ Guinness wings, you have to try them!

Ri-Ra

Ed's on Thursday nights is always fun.

If you're in north Charlotte (University area) there's just no better place than the Flying Saucer!

Hands down - Ed's tavern is by far the best local bar for it's music, live bands, cheap drinks, sports coverage, and trivia!! It never disappoints and always a fun spot for a drink and to "socialize". Highly, highly recommended!

I third for O'Sheas, the place is alot of fun

Tavern On The Tracks in South End

Midtown Sundries- Harborside in Cornelius has fun trivia; great view of the lake too!

Dale Jr's new bar, Whiskey River, is a fun new place.

Funny no one mentions The Double Door Inn...in business here since 1976.

Course, maybe it's cause they don't play stupid games like Trivial Pursuit.

What they do have there is ass-kickin' music, friendly staff, lots of interesting people in and out all night, and a sense of what a real bar is like.

Last I heard Picasso's Uptown had trivia on Thursday nights.

Corner Pub also has the control-type trivia. But you have to tolerate the coke heads and smoke.

Anonymous said...

Good pubs - Cedar Street Tavern for a good, local "everybody knows your name" kind of place. No trivia and outdated TVs.

Hartigan's for good Guinness/Bass/Harp. And you don't need to be gay to enjoy yourself.

Anonymous said...

If you don't like yankees and rednecks, than definately about any bar in Park road area, especially Mooseheads, Angry Ale's, Selywn etc. Picasso's is a good time also.

Cedar Street Tavern. No trivia, but always a good time!

Rira's-if you get outside table
Gin Mill-see above and Ed's is solid too.

Anonymous said...

uptown cabaret. seriously

Anonymous said...

stay away from Ed's for trivia on Thursday night. There's too many damn people already!

Anonymous said...

I can stand cigarette smoke! If I go in a bar and see that smoky haze I leave. As for Trivia, it's boring. I'd would much rather see live music any day. That's something Charlotte doesn't have, is good, small live music venues, IMO.

Every Wednesday night at Fox and the Hound in Uptown is trivia night...

Fox and the Hound in Uptown on Wed nights! They have great prizes.

What the hell do yankees and even rednecks have to do with this topic? I know plenty of southern guys who put gel in their hair too - what the hell? Why do you care how people wear their hair?

Anonymous said...

Atleast guys who put gel in their hair usually look nice and clean-cut...

Anonymous said...

Gel heads? Riight, because "bama bangs" are so COOL. That has to be one of the most retarted things ever created. Do you actually blow dry your hair to stay like that? How long does it take? You must stand by the mirror an awfully long time to get it to stay so perfect and wavy like that. Oh, did I mention you look retarded?

Anonymous said...

Tyber Creek, Thomas Ave and Cans are my faves.

Anonymous said...

I have figured out that people here will find any and every reason possible to hate you, whether it is where you are from to something as stupid as putting gel in your hair. Sad.

The music at Ed's IS TERRIBLE! I've never seen a band worth a darn in there. What a joke comment that is. Speaking of terrible places with bands, is the Evening Muse a D-U-M-P or what. Think they could have spent a little less on the sound system in there...JBL EONS as mains and no subs, what a joke! Check out the Visulite or Neighborhood if you want to hear something legit.

How about we all make it policy to leave any establishment where the band is playing 1) Mustang Sally 2) Sweet Home Alabama 3) Brown Eyed Girl. I know a lot of bald men with little talent would be playing to empty rooms, but COME ON, how about just a little creativity.

The other thing I can't understand is why ANYONE wants to see some local hacks playing well-known covers and playing them EXACTLY as they are on the CD. If you really want to hear that song so badly, just listen to the recording! It'll sound way better, and be a heckuva lot cheaper.

And if you want to know what is wrong with gelheads Yankees...perhaps you should watch the "my new haircut" video. I'm sure you can find it on YouTube. "Not now chief, I'm in the zone."

Note: button down shirts with alternating width stripes, untucked, with distressed jeans and square-toed black shoes is not cool, nor even neat or clean cut.

Anonymous said...

FYI - nobody tucks their shirts in anymore to go out. And you wonder why Charlotte is behind the times with style - please tell me how bright colored polo shirts tucked into bright colored khaki pants with boat shoes looks good? It doesn't. And by the way, there are multiple ways to gel your hair - not everyone does it like the "new haircut guy". And by the way, a nice pair of jeans are in style, and are probably cost more money than you make in a day.

Anonymous said...

Southern people can be so rude. They always have something nasty to say about other people as if they are perfect. Get over yourselves. I am so sick of this north vs. south crap! Grow up.

Anonymous said...

Boat shoes are NOT in style.

Anonymous said...

I am going to open up a bar called Southern Yankees. A place where we can all GET THE HELL ALONG!

Anonymous said...

Bailey's on 51, Wednesday nights

You Gelheads and Gelhead supporters pretty much answered exactly how everyone thought you would. You get way to hot headed and show your true colors. Bragging about your "expensive jeans". Yeah and I'm sure you spent a lot on your gold chain or shell necklace too. i know you dropped $300 bucks on that shirt from Jordonos so I wont get you too worked up. But come on, your style is played out. When 20 other people look exactly like you at the same bar, theres a problem. You wish you had the originality to wear sear sucker.

Somehow Charlotte has been inundated (infested?) w/ rednecks and Yankees, and worse than either alone you have the redneck yankees, "worst kind of redneck, worst kind of yankee (TM)."

Anonymous said...

Really? I have been here my whole life (moved here when I was 2 years old) and I find that there are a lot less rednecks now. THANK GOD!

Anonymous said...

If your going to talk $hit of course people are going to get hot headed.

Anonymous said...

Woody's in downtown Huntersville is our own version of Cheer's. No food, no live music, & no trivia. Just Golden Tee, good jukebox & cheap drinks!

Anonymous said...

RiRa's on Tuesday nights - Bob the Quiz Master makes it entertaining, and the gift certificate prizes are worth getting. Probably the best pub trivia in Charlotte. And maybe the hardest.

Anonymous said...

If you go to RiRa's try to get a table downstairs - if someone's smoking it may not be great, but you're more a part of the evening.

Anonymous said...

Where's a good place to watch the Baltimore Orioles play? (or Yankees since they play the O's 18 times)

Anonymous said...

Here are some great trivia nights mid-week.........
Tuesdays- Wild Wing Cafe at 9:00pm or Damons on Carowinds Boulevard at 8:00pm. Gin Mill at 9:30.

Wednesdays- All Music Trivia at Ed's Tavern or General Trivia at Angry Ales on Montford

Thursdays- All Music at Dixie's Tavern, Carmella's on Carowinds Boulevard. Used to be good at the Grid Iron / LW Junction, but they aren't offering trivia anymore.

Anonymous said...

Hands down, best trivia is at Ri-Ra on Tuesday nights. Winners for each round, great atmosphere, more rounds than at many other places and great questions. They have been doing it there for as long as I've been in town, so over 8 years!

d.d. Peckers in Pineville, great trivia contest on Wed's
