Know a better bird's-eye view of uptown skyline?

A reader named Sandy asked me about the perch with the best bird's-eye view of uptown Charlotte. See what I found out by reading today's column. Click here.

Also, got a better suggestion? Post it here. Thanks.

The view from the top of the parking deck for the new Target and Home Depot in Midtown is surprisingly good. There isn't much better of a view of uptown than from the roof of the Arlington, if you know someone who lives there! :-)

Pretend to be in the market for a condo and have someone from the sales team take you up to a top level unit. I guess how high you can go is dependant upon what units are sold. You can also go to the top of the Westin and take a look out thier windows to the other buildings in the skyline.

Get to know someone at the Avenue and maybe they will let you up for a peak. I live there and the views are pretty dramatic in most units.

Or, as said before, get a realtor to show you one of the upper floor corner units with city facing views. But come to think of it I am pretty sure that none of these units exist for resale. Most are on the other side of the tower.

You may be able to see a hand full of smaller units with a city view but they wont face all of the buildings, especially the ones on Trade St.

In the corner city view units you can see all the way down to the Wachovia tower, BofA Stadium, Time Warner Arena, BofA corporate tower, Hearst and IJL. You can also see the construction for the new Ritz and new BofA tower, the City Club, Carillon, TradeMark. As well as the new construction down in the 3rd Ward area, the local for the new city park and baseball stadium and part of the new Wachovia complex on S. Tryon.

Get up there, it's worth the effort if you enjoy this type of view.

The higher up you can get the better the views.

I have an aerial photo of the entire skyline of Charlotte from 1907. Actually there are two panoramic photos of the entire city of Charlotte in 1907. The photos are in a book called "Charlotte" 1907 "Sketches of Charlotte" and it is currently on auction on Ebay. I found the book in a box of misc things in an Estate in California. It would be best to end up in the hands of someone from the area! You can find the book with this fold-out three page long photo it by putting SKETCHES OF CHARLOTTE 1907 into the Ebay search bar. I hope it ends up in rightful hands.

I think that one of the best views of the city can be seen from the Johnson C Smith campus. Actually from the football stadium under the bull.
