What's a fixture in your neighborhood?

Today I wrote about Talley's Green Grocery in Dilworth closing. Some regulars who live near there consider it a neighborhood fixture. Other shoppers there yesterday said they can't wait for bigger rival Whole Foods to come in 2009.

Anyhow, today I want to hear about fixtures in your neighborhood. What's something that defines where you live? Post it here.

Big mature oak trees and Bradford pear trees. Come see 'em before the developers knock them down in the name of PROGRESS. And then we can wonder why we have bad ozone days.

if whole foods ever gets here I will send off sky rockets; I had a visit at my first whole foods in Washington D.C. a real city with things to do. I loved it . To bad we couldnt bring the rest of D.C. here there would be something to do.

Let's see. I had an arborist inspect the trees in my yard today and he informed me that my two giant willow oaks were the trophy wives of trees. I guess that means they're stunningly big and beautiful but the expression itself is a little lame.

SouthPark is the real fixture in my neighborhood. Park Road Shopping Center is close-by and Blackhawk Hardware and the Charlotte Cafe are the two fixtures there.

I've lived in lots of big cities and I find I have plenty of things to do here in Charlotte. I've already been to 2 concerts which is 1 more than all of last year when I lived in San Francisco. I have tickets for a 3d concert next Saturday. Have you been to any concerts?

In the last couple of weeks, both Obama and Hillary were here numerous times, probably more than they were in Washington, D.C., and much more accessible. Did you take an opportunity to see a future US President?

I've discovered my favorite dog breed has a meet-up here; this month's is tomorrow. Have you considered a pet?

Last weekend was the annual Charlotte AIDS Walk. Have you considered giving back to the community through some charitable work?

I have lived in the Charlotte area (and moved here from the DC area) for ten years now and have never, ever had a problem finding things to do, people to meet or places to go. I now live in the LKN/ Birkdale area, and I would have to say that the Village is a fixture in Huntersville- shopping, restaurants, things for kids (young and old) to do, plus they have community events and fundraisers here all the time. We walk there almost everyday, and as much as I miss South Charlotte, I do love being here, too....

Up here in North Meck, my wife and I have a little game with the fixtures in our neighborhood.

It's called "Let's See If We Can Get There For a Meal Before This Restaurant Closes and Another One Moves Into This Same Building."

Lake Norman Fun!

We really need a CASINO like a HARRAHS near Carrowinds . Knock down all them old Gambling houses near Carrowinds and create a 3 billion dollar empire over in that area. Gambling is a proven industry and People come from all over to play slots . Harrahs has such a membership that you cant even get a hotel near the place. This is a money maker.

I'm a NC Native and 30 year Charlottean. If anything is constant in Charlotte, it is change. Before the paint on a building dries we tear it down to build something new.

One thing that never changes is that we get a lot of stupid people from Ohio who get stuck on the whole North vs. South issue and won't let it go.

Oh yea and another fixture is people complaining that there is nothing to do. Odd thing is that these people can't ever seem to put a finger on what it is they actually want to do. I guess it doesn't involve sports, live music, restaurants, bars, shopping, or any sort of church or club activity.
