This is a wonderful place!

I'm writing about a wonderful place.

OK, readers, just hold on. I'm not talking about Charlotte, but a great place to go in Charlotte with the kiddies.

I'm talking about ImaginOn. At Imaginon, which is free, kids can put on a puppet show, play in a dollhouse listen to stories or take workshops. The $41 million facility opened in 2005 and is home to the children's library and the Children's Theatre of Charlotte. (Note: The Children's Theatre productions are not free.)

For more about ImaginOn and a calendar of events, click here.

Today my husband took off work to hang with our daughter (17 months), because daycare was closed. At my suggestion, they attended toddler story time at ImaginOn. In March, my girl and I had fun at a kids concert there.

The reveiw from today's story time? Here's what Jeff emailed to say about it:

"She liked ImaginOn. Had a hard time sitting still for storytime (which was only 20 minutes) but wasn't too bad. They take little dance breaks, which she liked. We walked around for about 30 minutes afterward so she could push buttons and watch the exhibits do their thing."

I wish I could have gone. The next time daycare is closed, I get to stay home with the kiddo and ImaginOn is a sure bet.

You're so right Amy, ImaginOn is a great library for children. When my child was under two and prone to meltdowns, I particularly appreciated that the building's designers had placed the reading area for the youngest readers right at the entrance. In case of meltdown, you could exit the building without having to disturb other patrons greatly. I thought it was just brilliant!

My my what thin skin you have. It's ok for you to say "OK, readers, just hold on. I'm not talking about Charlotte", but it's not ok for me to point out that we KNOW you don't like Charlotte so there is no reason for you to specifically point that out.

If you're going to delete comments that point out your stupidity then this blog is less than useless as a means of debate.

I did not publish your post because you said I don't like Charlotte. Go ahead and say that all you want. (Not true, by the way.) I deleted it because you made a mean comment about my child. I don't know any mother who would allow that.

Good for you, Amy. "Hey, I'm going to insult your kid. And yes, I'm too chicken to sign my name." Gotta love the critics without courage to own up to their words.

Thank you Amy! ImaginOn is a fantastic place for kids of all ages. We used to live in 4th ward, then in the university area, and now in the WAY north Mecklenburg area. We still make sure to visit ImaginOn at least once a month.

The exhibits are interesting visually and tactilely. The library is fantastic for all size kids. The teen programs really draw in those sullen aliens that live in our houses 10 years after being SOOOO cute.

AND the Childrens Theatre. I can't say enough about the CT. By the way, tickets are now on sale for next years lineup. If you order over the summer they are cheaper and there are some shows that are 2-for-1 deals.

The outside of the building is a great source of fun for the kids as well. Interactive sculptures for climbing and reading.

Thank you for drawing attention to such a wonderful place!

Well handled with anon. 4:07, Amy. Hopefully he will find somewhere else to spew his bile.

I do wonder if the only way you will ever give the city anything other than this backhanded compliment is to become a newcomer again. Then you can go on and on about how great things were "back home" somewhere else.

Perhaps people are upset with themselves because they didn't do the proper research before they moved. When people "start a new life" they often see things through rose colored glasses. As such, they tend to ignore certain things, or at the very least they assume everything will work out. Often times people have to start new lives because they botched up their old lives. Only problem is that they bring bring the same problems with them, themselves. Before starting a new life, fix the one you already have. Charlotte looks good when viewed through those rose colored glasses, but reality quickly sets in to reveal those things which make it not so nice.

Exactly. If you were a loser in New Jersey, Ohio, or California then you are still a loser in Charlotte. Lattitude and lower cost of living don't change the fact that you are low rent.

Charlotte is a wonderful place -- and it is full of many wonderful welcoming people --many of whom once called someplace else home. But just as anywhere else you will find people who are unhappy or who will find a reason to fault or disparage others.

I am glad to have called Charlotte home for over a year now. I have a lot to learn about this community, but I thank the people who have taken the time to tell me about the great places to go, visit and explore.

Thank you for this blog, and for keeping it on topic, (despite an occassional bump in the road!)

Best regards,
Meghan

Imaginon was in no way free. I fact it cost more than 10,000,000 dollars more than the budget it was originally given, so take those 'free' activities with a grain of salt.

I can see this coming here next to CAROWINDS.

The new Police Chief will be a great thing in Charlotte and will help transition of Black and White relations here. Charlotte has been divided by Race and polarization in its time we offer the Black neighborhoods the protection they are paying for also. Charlotte can be a great town and People here want law and order. We want a gun ban in the City of Charlotte. That means you can have guns in your house but not outside the house.

Charlotte is like Dodge city with bullets flying everywhere; We need a gun ban in the city limits . You will have to have a license and training by a certified gun trainer to carry a gun. Anyone caught with a gun and no peperwork will serve one year in jail.
