Attention young professionals

Attention young professionals: Looking to network and socialize with people like you?

Matt Corsi has a group for you, aptly called Charlotte Young Professionals. He started it in February to fill what he sees as a void in career development.

"There are some similar social groups in the area, but I found they didn't really cater to people in their young 20s and 30s when they are just starting out their careers," said Corsi, 23, an assistant vice president at Bank of America.

The group will have its first social 6 p.m. Thursday at HOM (pronounced "home"), 116 W. Fifth St.

To find out more about Charlotte Young Professionals or to join, go to MeetUp.com, which currently lists 144 members.

Corsi moved here three months ago from Ohio.

"It is milder weather," he said. "And I like that Charlotte is on the uprise compared to other areas."

Got a group you want me and/or others to know about? Post it here or e-mail me.

The Charlotte Junior Chamber, aka the Jaycees, are always looking for like minded people as well. We've been connected to Charlotte since 1929.

Come on out Tuesday, March 18th, 7:00 PM to Cans 500 W. 5th St. for our monthly Membership Night.

Check us out on line at www.charlottejuniorchamber.com for other events and info.

I'd probably be more interested in throwing in my lot with the Jaycees (who've been here since 1929) than some dude who just rolled in 3 months ago...

It is nice to see another group OTHER then the Jaycees. It seems like this guy is working hard.

I joined since I wasn't charged a yearly fee... unlike the Jaycees

To the junior chamber poster at 6:01 ... I'd love to make it to tonight's membership night -- to meet newcomers and members --- but I have another assignment. Could you please let me know when and where the next one is? Thanks!

No reason you can't join both or have two groups. At least it's no fee. And we all start somewhere, so what if he has been here only 3 months. I look forward to checking it out.

Doesn't the Charlotte Chamber have a YP group that does focus on Professional Development? It helps if your employer is a member of the Chamber, but I believe anyone can attend.

Matt is doing a great job with this group tring to get it off the ground. I have already met some great people, which as a new person to the city is helpful.
