Charlotte good for singles?

Guess which city is tops on Forbes.com's list of best 10 U.S. cities to be single?

Answer: Atlanta.

It's the first time Atlanta has ranked No. 1 in the survey.

According to Forbes.com: "The capital of Georgia and home of Coca-Cola earns the top slot because of its hopping nightlife, relatively high number of singles and sizzling job growth. To those who know 'Hotlanta,' the ranking should come as no surprise. In the eight years that we have been ranking America's largest urban areas in terms of their friendliness to the nation's 74 million single adults, only once did Atlanta place outside the top 10."

Charlotte didn't make the top 10. The survey based rankings on these categories: culture, night life, number of singles, job growth, cost of living alone and online dating.

Charlotte is the first city I moved to not single, so I don't know what it's like to be a singleton here. So you tell me -- especially you singleton newcomers -- how Charlotte rates for those not coupled off.

Charlotte is not in the Top 10, and for good reason. It is terrible to be single here.

Amen to that!

This is NOT the place to be if you're single and over 30.

Charlotte is not a good place to be single, even in your twenties. At UNCC, there were always several traditional age students in each of my classes that were married or engaged. This is a place people come to build a family they already have - it's not a place to start one.

meck - you're in/were in the wrong major. I havent had any trouble and I'm in a major with next to no people of the opposite sex.

not surprised we're not top 10, but as far as things to do and places to meet people, I think we're working on it.

The nightlife has improved that is for sure. In 5 years I am sure it will be better.

I agree with the over 30 and single comment--it's beginning to be depressing here. I have entertained moving just to try and have a dating life. And don't go to friends functions and you are the sole single woman, it's like having a scarlett letter on your forehead.

You think being 30 and single is bad? Try being 40 and single. I haven't been on a date in 4 months because it's impossible to meet single women close to my age. The ones that are single either already have kids, or they've made the decision to stay single forever, or they've driven away every decent guy who was ever interested in them.

It's pretty depressing.

Maybe all of you are just really ugly?

Yes, I'm sure that's it. We're all really ugly.

Or maybe you're just an idiot? Either assumption is equally valid given the lack of evidence to support or refute it, but since I am referring to just one person and you're referring to a whole group of individuals, logic says there's a better chance that I am right.

hahah "Maybe all of you are just really ugly?" ...must be a joke right? or it's rather immature.

Anyhow, maybe because I've been here too long but Charlotte is absolutely not a good city for singles...in mid-twenty and up. Either try to beat the line at the overrated new club called Suite or just give up and walk to Forum...or sit at few bars around there..Other than that, go dining by yourself at few good restaurants?? There isn't a restaurant/lounge that's filled with singles to couples who are from mid-twenty and up. There isn't much to offer here at all except for jobs at HQ of Bank of America and woops..there goes Wachovia :(

I hate to burst your bubble but if you're over 30 and not in a relationship then the pickings are slim whether you live in Charlotte, NY, LA, or anywhere else.

Charlotte has excellent networking opportunities which could appeal to the older demographics.
